WWI Stonebridge Lantern

This model was originally patented in 1906 by Charles Stonebridge and was widely used by American and Canadian troops during the First World War. The design is famous because it uses special glass instead of ordinary glass. This is a heat-resistant glass that did not shatter from the heavy shockwaves of artillery explosions. In addition, the Stonebridge design featured a solid metal back that blocked light from projecting backward, ensuring the soldier did not become an easy target for enemy snipers.
Because electricity was rare at the front and liquid oil was too dangerous and messy to transport, candles were the primary source of light in the dark dugouts and trenches.
