The Spanish M1913 bayonet, officially the Machete Bayoneta Modelo 1913, is a sword bayonet originally developed for the Spanish Mauser rifle. The model is known for its long blade and distinctive diamond-shaped (checkered) wooden grips.
Features and Specifications
The M1913 was designed to offer a greater reach when used on shorter rifles, following the principle of the time: short rifle, long bayonet.
- Length: The total length is approximately 52 to 53 cm, with a blade length of about 40 cm.
- Grip: Equipped with checkered wooden grip scales secured by two screws. The pommel is shaped like a bird's head.
- Blade: A straight, polished steel blade with a deep blood groove (fuller) that runs almost to the tip.
- Scaffold: Usually made of black leather with steel mounts (throat and tip). Usage and Manufacturers
This type of bayonet was used extensively during the Rif War in Morocco and the Spanish Civil War.
- Compatibility: Originally intended for the M1895 carbine, but eventually issued as standard for the 7mm Mauser M1916 and later the 8mm Mauser M1943.
- Markings: Most examples are minted with "Artilleria Fábrica Nacional, Toledo" on the ricasso. Examples produced during the Civil War by the Republican side may be marked with "PV" (Parque de Valencia).
- Number codes: The serial number is on the ricasso (e.g. 56641).
