Spanish M.42/79 Steel Helmet

The Spanish M.42/79 steel helmet, also known as the "Modelo Z," is a post-WWII modernization of the original Spanish M1942 helmet. It was used by the Spanish Army (Ejército de Tierra) from the late 1970s through the 1980s before being replaced by composite models. 

Key Features and Design

• Shell Design: The helmet closely follows the lines of the German Stahlhelm M35, but is made of thinner, lower-quality steel, making it more prone to dents.
• Front Bracket: A distinctive feature of Spanish helmets is a metal bracket or "tongue" welded to the front, used to attach military insignia for parades.
• 1979 Update (M79 Liner): The "/79" designation refers to the modern liner system introduced in 1979. This new suspension system, influenced by NATO standards, used leather and hemp and was similar in style to the American M1 helmet liner.
• Color and Finish: These helmets are typically finished in a plain olive green paint, though they were often used with double-sided "amoeba" camouflage covers (green/brown).
