Medal DDR for Distinguished Achievement in the Worker’s Combat Group KDA
€ 12,50
The Medaille für ausgezeichnete Leistungen in den Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse was a state distinction of the GDR. Although the design strongly resembles the previously discussed medal for "loyal service," the purpose of this medal was different: it was an achievement award rather than a jubilee prize for years of service.
Key facts:
- Institution: The medal was instituted in 1966.
- Purpose: The award was presented as recognition for exceptional merit and to increase the operational readiness of the units.
Design:
- Obverse: In the center is a right hand holding a rifle with a red workers' flag.
- Inscription: Unlike the service time medal, the text "FÜR AUSGEZEICHNETE LEISTUNGEN" appears on the obverse.
- Reverse: Displays the state coat of arms of the GDR.
- Grades: This specific medal was usually awarded in a single grade (bronze-colored/metal), in contrast to the three grades (bronze, silver, gold) of the "loyal service" medals.
Difference in usage
While the medal for "treue Dienste" was automatically received after 10, 15, or 20 years, for the medal for "ausgezeichnete Leistungen," one had to perform an active, exceptional service within the Kampfgruppen.
