The Golden Palms in the Order of the Crown is a higher distinction within the hierarchy of the Order of the Crown in Belgium. It is positioned just above the Silver Palms and below the Order of Knighthood.
Conditions for awarding
The award is usually based on a combination of seniority (years of service) and merit:
- Private sector (Employees): Is often awarded to employees who have already received the First Class Order of Labour (after 30 years of service) and have remained active thereafter. In practice, this often amounts to a career of 45 years or, upon retirement, after a minimum of 40 years of service.
- Military personnel:For non-commissioned officers, a requirement of 25 years of meritorious service generally applies. For corporals and soldiers, the limit is usually 35 years of service.
- Other sectors: It may also be awarded to board members of trade unions, lower-ranking civil servants, and individuals in the arts or sciences who have made significant contributions without qualifying for a higher rank of knighthood.
Characteristics of the decoration
- Appearance: It consists of two crossed, gold-colored (gilded) palm branches.
- Ribbon: The accompanying ribbon is solid dark red (amaranth).
- Status: It is a national distinction granted by Royal Decree for loyal service to the country or exceptional achievements in trade, industry, or public service.
