The Commemorative Medal for the Reign of Albert I (1909–1934) is an official Belgian military award instituted by King Baudouin on February 17, 1962. This medal was created in memory of King Albert I, the "Soldier King," who led the country during the First World War.
Award and Criteria
The medal was awarded to:
Veterans and active members of the Belgian Armed Forces.
A condition was honorable service during the reign of Albert I, specifically between December 18, 1909, and February 18, 1934.
Characteristics of the medal
- Design: A round, patinated bronze medal with a diameter of 32 mm.
- Obverse: A portrait of King Albert I in left profile, wearing a military helmet (decorated with a laurel wreath) and an army coat with a standing collar. At the top is the Latin inscription "ALBERTVS" and at the bottom "REX".
- Reverse: A large crowned letter "A" between an oak branch (left) and a laurel branch (right). At the bottom are the years "1909" and "1934".
- Ribbon: A silk moiré ribbon 38 mm wide in the color yellow, with a narrow green stripe of 2 mm in the middle.
