Patriae Servire Libertas medal

The Patriae Servire Libertas medal is the official Latin motto on the Dutch Public Order and Safety Volunteer Medal. The motto literally means: "Serving the fatherland is freedom".
Characteristics of the medal
- Design: A round bronze medal of 35 mm.
- Obverse: A crenellated castle wall with a rising sun in the background. A snake coils in front of the wall.
- Reverse: The Dutch National Coat of Arms.
- Ribbon: Green with an orange stripe on both sides.
Award
The award is granted as a token of appreciation for volunteers who have dedicated themselves to public order and safety for a long period (at least 10 years). This applies to volunteers at:
The fire brigade.
The police (volunteer officers).
The former Civil Defence (BB).
The Dutch Red Cross and the ambulance services. For continued service (after 15, 20, 25 years, etc.), the medal is not reissued, but a year mark in the form of a Roman numeral may be worn on the ribbon.
