Belgian M1924 Mauser Export Bayonet "Sword Model"
€ 120,00
The Belgian M1924 Mauser export bayonet was produced by Fabrique Nationale (FN) Herstal between 1924 and 1964 to accompany the Model 1924 and Model 1930 Mauser short rifles. Because Belgium was a major arms exporter, these bayonets were sold to at least 33 different countries, including Argentina, Brazil, China, Israel, and Venezuela.
Key Identification Features
These bayonets are known for their high-quality construction but are often difficult to trace to a specific country due to a lack of original factory markings.
- Blade Lengths: Most commonly found in two versions:
- Long Version: Approximately 384–387 mm (sword style).
- Short Version: Approximately 250–300 mm (knife style).
- Blade Characteristics: Features a standard Mauser-style blade with a thick spine, circular fullers, and a more pointed tip.
- Finish:
- Pre-WWII: Typically "in the white" (bright polished) with blued scabbards and pommels.
- Post-WWII: Often fully blued, phosphated, or painted according to customer preference.
- Handle & Pommel: Wooden grips are secured by two headless screws and often feature an inspection/oil slot. The pommel has a standard Mauser mortise and a circular hole for the rifle's cleaning rod.
- Markings: Usually produced without factory proof marks. If present, serial numbers are typically located on the back of the pommel. Some countries added their own marks, such as a small anchor (possibly naval use) or an "M" inside a "U" (South Africa).
