GDR Medal

This concerns the Medaille für treue Dienste im Gesundheits- und Sozialwesen, a state distinction of the former GDR (East Germany).

Initiated: November 15, 1973.

• Purpose: Reward for personnel in the healthcare and social sector for years of loyal service and fulfillment of duty.

Levels:

• Bronze: for 10 years of service.
• Silver: for 20 years of service.
• Gold: for 30 years of service.

The obverse features the caduceus (a snake encircling a staff), the well-known symbol of medicine. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the GDR (hammer and compass within a wreath of ears of corn).
