The flat cap of the National Police Corps (1945–1994) was the symbol of authority on Dutch roads. The design was businesslike and strongly military-inspired.
Key Details
- Color & Material: The cap was made of a deep dark blue (almost black) wool and a light blue band.
- Corps Emblem: The Grenade with Flame is the symbol of the National Police Corps (and still is of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee). It symbolizes vigilance. In the National Police, this flaming grenade was often placed within an eight-pointed star.
- Peak: Lower ranks: a black, smooth plastic peak.
- Officers: The peak was decorated with gold-colored oak leaves (the more leaves, the higher the rank).
- Chin Strap: A black chin strap was attached above the peak with two small buttons.
