Dutch Mess Kit M-1915

The Dutch Mess Kit Model 1915 (M15), also known as the M.15 mess tin, was a standard piece of equipment for Dutch soldiers during the mobilization period and the Battle of the Netherlands in May 1940.

Characteristics of the M15 Mess Kit

• Material: Made of galvanized or zinc-coated sheet steel to prevent rust formation.
• Detachable Handle: A unique feature of the M15 model is that it was issued with a detachable handle. Because this handle could be uncoupled, it was lost from many surviving examples over the years. The detachable handle is now a rare and highly sought-after piece of militaria.
• The Pouch: The mess kit was carried in a special mess kit pouch attached to the waist belt. This pouch was made of green-grey cotton canvas, reinforced with brown leather on the inside, and fastened with two small straps with roller buckles.
