Belgian Side Cap
€ 10,00
In the post-World War II period (from 1945 onwards), Belgian uniforms underwent significant changes. While the beret became the most prominent headgear, the quarter cap (field cap) remained in use for specific units and ceremonial purposes.
The combination of a black cap with red piping in the post-war period indicates one of the following categories:
- Armoured World (Guides or Cuirassier Regiments): With the transition from cavalry to armored units, black headgear (both berets and field caps) became standard. Red piping on black caps was often used as a distinguishing mark for these units in ceremonial or "exit" uniforms.
- Historical Regiments (Grenadiers): Although the Grenadiers traditionally wore dark blue (often so deep in color that it appeared black), the red piping remained their signature color. Post-war ceremonial versions of the quarter cap often retained this color scheme.
Post-1945 features:
Post-war styles are often recognizable by a more modern cut (inspired by British or American styles) and the use of synthetic fabrics compared to the heavy wool of the pre-1940s.
