€ 150,00
The Brazilian M1908 bayonet is a classic German design, produced for the Brazilian army for use with the 7mm M1908 Mauser rifle. These bayonets were manufactured primarily between 1908 and 1914 by renowned German manufacturers from Solingen and Suhl.
Key Features
- Design: It is a knife bayonet with a single-edged blade and a blood groove (fuller) that extends right up to the tip.
- Dimensions: The bayonet has a blade length of approximately 29.8 to 30 cm and a total length of approximately 43.2 cm.
- Handle: Fitted with wooden scales secured with two rivets. The pommel has a T-groove for attachment to the rifle's bayonet stud.
- Crosspiece: Characteristic is the curved guard (hooked quillon) with a flattened ball at the end. Markings and Manufacturers
You can often recognize the origin of an M1908 bayonet by the stamps on the ricasso (the flat part of the blade just above the guard):
- German Manufacturers: Common names include Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co (W.K. & Cie), Simson & Co. Suhl, and Alex Coppel.
- Brazilian Production: There are also examples without factory stamps or with the marking "FI" (Fabrica de Itajuba), the Brazilian state factory. These are often of a later date or served as replacements.
- Inspection Stamps: Small Greek letters such as *β : 𝜷 (beta) or *δ : 𝜹 (delta)* are often found on the back of the blade or the pommel, indicating a Brazilian military inspection.
The Scabbard
The original German scabbard is made of black leather with brass fittings (locket and chape). Brazilian replacement sheaths often have blued steel fittings and are sometimes marked with "FI".
