King of Prussia "Centenary Medal"

Centenarmedaille, which was instituted on March 22, 1897, by Emperor Wilhelm II on the occasion of the 100th birthday of his grandfather, Emperor Wilhelm I.

• Purpose: The medal was a tribute to the first emperor of the German Empire.
• Material: The medals were struck from the bronze of captured cannons (primarily from the Franco-Prussian War).
• Nickname: Because the medal was awarded to more than a million people (soldiers, veterans, and civil servants) and had a golden-yellow color, it was popularly mockingly called the "Apfelsinenorden" (Order of Orange).
