M43 "Plane Tree Pattern" Camouflage Helmet Cover Size 3
€ 59,50
Reproduction of a WW2 German Planetree (Platanenmuster) 1–2 pattern camouflage helmet cover was the earliest mass-produced camouflage used by the Waffen-SS, first appearing around 1938. It is characterized by small, hand-screened "spots" or "dots" that mimic the dappled light and shadow found under a forest canopy.
Key Characteristics
- Reversibility: These covers are fully reversible, featuring a Spring/Summer side with vibrant green tones and an Autumn/Fall side with brown and orange hues.
- Fabric & Print: Covers were made from a high-quality, fine-yarn cotton poplin. The "1–2" refers to the specific screen-printing numbered blocks used during production.
- Attachment: They are secured to the helmet (M35, M40, or M42) using three rocker clips attached to internal springs.
Types & Evolutions
- First Pattern (Type 1): These early covers lack foliage loops. They rely solely on the printed pattern for concealment.
- Second Pattern (Type 2): Introduced around mid-1942, these added foliage loops (usually seven) sewn onto the cover to allow soldiers to insert grass or twigs for extra camouflage.
- Overprint: Later in the war (starting in 1943), a secondary "overprint" of dark blackish-green shapes was often applied over the base Planetree pattern to further break up the soldier's silhouette.
