The Socapex 403 M2 is a classic French helicopter helmet produced by Socapex (a subsidiary of Gentex), primarily during the 1950s and 1960s.

• Usage: The helmet is best known for its use by Alouette II helicopter pilots.
• Users: It was standard equipment for the ALAT (Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre), part of the French Army. The helmet saw service in various conflicts, including the Indochina War and Lebanon.
• Design: The model is based on technology from the American company Gentex and bears a strong resemblance to the U.S. Navy H-4 "bone dome" helmet.
• Succession: In the mid-1960s, the 403 M2 was succeeded by the 403 M3, which featured minor improvements but retained largely the same design.

Features and Construction

• Outer Shell: Made of fiberglass, usually finished in a dark green color.
• Interior: Equipped with a thick foam layer and a nylon webbing harness with leather pads for comfort.
