The flat cap of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) is an important part of the Daily Dress (DT) and the Ceremonial Dress. The design and decorations vary greatly by rank to reflect the hierarchy within the corps.
Characteristics by Rank
- Enlisted Men & Corporals: A simple dark blue cap with a black chin strap and a silver-colored emblem.
- Non-Commissioned Officers: Similar to the enlisted men, often with subtle differences in the emblem material or finish.
- Subaltern Officers (Lieutenants/Captains): The cap has a gold-colored embroidered emblem and a gold-colored chin strap, but the peak is still plain (bare).
- Chief Officers (Major through Colonel): This cap is distinguished by a single row of gold-colored oak leaves on the brim.
- General Officers (Chief Officers): The most ornately decorated cap, with a double row of gold-colored oak leaves on the peak.
