Austrian Police Cap

The white summer version of the flat cap of the Austrian Federal Security Guard (now part of the Bundespolizei) is an iconic uniform item, primarily worn during the warmer months for a formal and recognizable appearance.

Cap Features:

• Color and Material: The cap has a white cotton top.
• Insignia: The official corps insignia, usually a gold or silver metal eagle (the Austrian coat of arms) surrounded by a wreath, is located on the front.
• Chin Strap: The cap features a gold braided cord attached with small buttons at the sides.
• Function: This version was specifically designed for summer uniforms to reflect heat and maintain a neat streetscape.

Historical Context:

Since the reform of the Austrian police in 2005, the individual corps (such as the Federal Security Guard and the Gendarmerie) have been merged into the Bundespolizei. Although the design has been slightly modernized, the white "Tellerkappe" (flat cap) remains a staple of the summer and traffic uniforms of the current Austrian police.
