€ 55,00
The military M1916 hip holster is the most iconic leather holster for the Colt M1911 .45 ACP pistol. This legendary design was deployed by the U.S. military during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Historical Versions & Colors
- Russet Brown (WWII / Early): Until the mid-1950s, these holsters were made from natural vegetable-tanned leather that darkened into a deep, rust-brown shade through exposure to sunlight and oil. This is the most sought-after variant for classic WWII displays.
- Black (Post-WWII / Vietnam): Starting in 1956, the U.S. military changed the standard color of all leather gear to black. Black M1916 holsters were widely used in Vietnam and remained in service until the M1911 was phased out in the 1980s.
Features of the M1916 Design
- Full Protection: The large flap protected the weapon from dirt, sand, and weather conditions in muddy trenches and jungles.
- Belt Attachment: The back is equipped with the classic double metal wire hook (for the eyelets in canvas M1912/M1936 web belts) as well as wide slots for regular trousers belts.
- Stiff Leather: New (or unissued) leather specimens are very stiff. A well-known "soldier's trick" is to spray the inside with a leather oil (such as Ballistol) or to wet-form the holster with the weapon inside for a perfect fit.
