€ 15,00
During the 1950s, soldiers of the Princess Irene Guards Fusilier Regiment wore a brass or bronze shoulder emblem featuring a crowned scroll with the text "PRINSES IRENE" on their British-style uniforms.
Developments in the 1950s
- Until 1951: The regiment wore the original model with the text "Prinses Irene" underneath a royal crown.
- From 1951: New brass shoulder titles (and embroidered shoulder flashes) were introduced with the official addition "GARDE PRINSES IRENE" to mark its promotion to a Guards regiment.
- From 1952: The unit's name officially changed to the Garderegiment Fuseliers Prinses Irene.
- Late 1950s: These metal shoulder insignia disappeared completely as the army transitioned to new American-style uniforms.
The iconic brass design of the crowned scroll eventually moved permanently to the beret, where it is still worn today on an orange backing.
